Pike Place Chowder was recently awarded First Place at the West Port CT Chowda Fest, taking home the title for its New England clam chowder for the third year in a row.
Served on most lunch and dinner menus in First Class onboard select short-haul flights from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Pike Place Chowder has been a favorite amongst Delta customers since it was introduced inflight in July 2016.
In addition to partnering with Pike Place Chowder, Delta also partners with various other suppliers in Seattle to create its fresh, seasonal meals in First Class such as Pike Place Fish Market, The Pike Brewing Company’s XXXXX Stout Mustard, Uli’s Famous Sausage, Beecher’s Handmade Cheese and Pappardelle’s Pasta.
Delta’s partnership with local suppliers like Pike’s Place Chowder is part of the airline’s broader culinary strategy to provide fresh, local and seasonally rotating dishes to elevate the onboard dining experience.
Across its network, Delta’s consulting chefs Linton Hopkins, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo and select chefs from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group artfully create menus using fresh ingredients produced by local purveyors and artisan suppliers for their Delta One menus.
Additionally, Delta partners with Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson to create a robust wine program that also incorporates a seasonal approach pairing perfectly with the airline’s Delta One menus.
Delta’s overall culinary strategy is part of the airline’s multi-billion dollar investment in the customer experience that includes a cabin modernization program featuring new seats, seatback entertainment systems with free entertainment, free mobile messaging, high-capacity overhead bins, access to Wi-Fi on nearly all flights, free Main Cabin meals on select flights, upgraded Main Cabin snacks, an Alessi-designed collection of serviceware, Westin Heavenly® In-Flight Bedding, chef-curated meals paired with wines hand-selected by Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson, noise-canceling LSTN headphones and more.
Delta is the largest global carrier at Sea-Tac and has more than tripled flights and destinations at its Seattle hub since 2012. Every Delta flight from Seattle features jet service with Delta One/First Class and Delta Comfort+ seating. Free entertainment is available via Delta Studio, and Wi-Fi is available on all long-haul international flights and nearly every domestic flight operating in the contiguous U.S. The airline opened a 21,000 sq. ft. Delta Sky Club – the third largest Sky Club in Delta’s system – located between Concourses A and B in late 2016.
